Thank you for joining Nbparents. We at Nbparens (“Nbparents”, “we”, “us”) respect your privacy and want you to understand how we collect, use, and share data about you. This Privacy Policy covers our data collection practices and describes your rights regarding your personal data.
Unless we link to a different policy or state otherwise, this Privacy Policy applies when you visit or use Nbparents websites, mobile applications, APIs, or related services (the “Services”). It also applies to prospective customers of our business and enterprise products.
By using the Services, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. PLEASE DO NOT ACCESS OR USE ANY OUR PLATFORM if you don’t agree with this Privacy Policy or any other agreement that governs your use of the Services.
Key Terms
We use some key terms in our Notice that you should know as you read the information.
Customers mean a user who uses the Platform of Nbparents. include Students and their Parents, Educators, and Partners.
Students are the minors (18 years and younger) who participate in Nbparents activities.
Parents are the parents or legal guardians of the Students.
Educators are the independent contractors - either individuals or organizations - who offer classes through Nbparents’ platform.
Partners are companies (third parties) that we work with, such as schools, technology vendors, employers, or non-profit organizations, and who are not “Educators”.
Services means the Classes or Activities or other engagement by Customers with Nbparents.
Classes means the courses developed / taught by Educators, whether individuals or organizations.
Activities means the groups, challenges, and other types of engagement through or with Nbparents in which any Customers may participate, whether paid or free.
Personal Information/Data means information linked to an identified (or identifiable) person.
Content means text, graphics, images, music, software, audio, video, information or other materials, including but not limited to Pro Services requests, quotes, message threads, reviews, scheduling and calendar information, and other information or materials available on or through the Platform.
Process means any activity with personal information, e.g., collecting, using, sharing, storing, etc.
1. What Data We Get
We collect certain data from you directly, like information you enter yourself, data about your consumption of content, and data from third-party platforms you connect with Nbparents. We also collect some data automatically, like information about your device and what parts of our Services you interact with or spend time using. All data listed in this section is subject to the following processing activities: collecting, recording, structuring, storing, altering, retrieving, encrypting, pseudonymizing, erasing, combining, and transmitting.
1.1 Data You Provide to Us
We may collect different data from or about you depending on how you use the Services. Below are some examples to help you better understand the data we collect.
When you create an account and use the Services, including through a third-party platform, we collect any data you provide directly, including:
1.2 Account Data
In order to use certain features (like accessing content), you need to create a user account, which requires us to collect and store your email address, password, and account settings. To create an Educator account, we collect and store your name, email address, password, and account settings. As you use certain features on the site, you may be prompted to submit additional information including occupation, government ID information, verification photo, date of birth, race/ethnicity, skill interests, and phone number. Upon account creation, we assign you a unique identifying number.
1.3 Profile Data
You can also choose to provide profile information like a photo, headline, biography, language, website link, social media profiles, country, or other data. Your Profile Data will be publicly viewable by others.
1.4 Shared Content
Parts of the Services let you interact with other users or share content publicly, including by uploading courses and other educational content, posting reviews about content, asking or answering questions, sending messages to Customers or Educators, or posting photos or other work you upload. Such shared content may be publicly viewable by others depending on where it is posted.
1.5 Learning Data
When you access content, we collect certain data including which courses, assignments, labs, workspaces, and quizzes you’ve started and completed; content and subscription purchases and credits; subscriptions; completion certificates; your exchanges with Educators, Educators’ assistants, and other Customers or Students; and essays, answers to questions, and other items submitted to satisfy course and related content requirements.
1.6 Student Payment Data
If you make purchases, we collect certain data about your purchase (such as your name, billing address, and ZIP code) as necessary to process your order and which may optionally be saved to process future orders. You must provide certain payment and billing data directly to our payment service providers, including your name, credit card information, billing address, and ZIP code. We may also receive limited information, like the fact that you have a new card and the last four digits of that card, from payment service providers to facilitate payments. For security, Nbparents does not collect or store sensitive cardholder data, such as full credit card numbers or card authentication data.
1.7 Educator Payment Data
If you are an Educator, you can link your PayPal, or other payment account to the Services to receive payments. When you link a payment account, we collect and use certain information, including your payment account email address, account ID, physical address, or other data necessary for us to send payments to your account. In some instances, we may collect ACH or wire information to send payments to your account. In order to comply with applicable laws, we also work with trusted third parties who collect tax information as legally required. This tax information may include residency information, tax identification numbers, biographical information, and other personal information necessary for taxation purposes. For security, Nbparents does not collect or store sensitive bank account information. The collection, use, and disclosure of your payment, billing, and taxation data is subject to the privacy policy and other terms of your payment account provider.
1.8 Data About Your Accounts on Other Services
We may obtain certain information through your social media or other online accounts if they are connected to your Nbparents account. If you log in to Nbparents via Facebook or another third-party platform or service, we ask for your permission to access certain information about that other account. For example, depending on the platform or service we may collect your name, profile picture, account ID number, login email address, location, physical location of your access devices, gender, birthday, and list of friends or contacts.
Those platforms and services make information available to us through their APIs. The information we receive depends on what information you (via your privacy settings) or the platform or service decide to give us.
If you access or use our Services through a third-party platform or service, or click on any third-party links, the collection, use, and sharing of your data will also be subject to the privacy policies and other agreements of that third party.
1.9 Sweepstakes, Promotions, and Surveys
We may invite you to complete a survey or participate in a promotion (like a contest, sweepstakes, or challenge), either through the Services or a third-party platform. If you participate, we will collect and store the data you provide as part of participating, such as your name, email address, postal address, date of birth, or phone number. That data is subject to this Privacy Policy unless otherwise stated in the official rules of the promotion or in another privacy policy. The data collected will be used to administer the promotion or survey, including for notifying winners and distributing rewards. To receive a reward, you may be required to allow us to post some of your information publicly (like on a winner’s page). Where we use a third-party platform to administer a survey or promotion, the third party’s privacy policy will apply.
1.10 Communications and Support
If you contact us for support or to report a problem or concern (regardless of whether you have created an account), we collect and store your contact information, messages, and other data about you like your name, email address, messages, location, Nbparents user ID, refund transaction IDs, and any other data you provide or that we collect through automated means (which we cover below). We use this data to respond to you and research your question or concern, in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
1.11 Sensitive Data
“Sensitive data” has different meanings depending on location. Where possible, we apply heightened protection to sensitive data. In some places, information from a child may be considered sensitive information itself. You or a Students may voluntarily provide sensitive information, such as health or disability information included in forms, messages, or with a complaint or concern. Customers or Students may also be enrolled in special classes offered for Customers or Students with disabilities and Educators may volunteer their disabilities within a class. Educators, Customers and Students are otherwise not allowed to have discussions that may elicit or result in sharing of sensitive information, and where they do learn sensitive information, they are not permitted to share that outside Nbparents or use it in an inappropriate way.
Fraud. If we suspect that a Customers or Students is over the age of 18 or misrepresenting their identity, for the safety of other Customers or Students, we may request proof of appropriate age or identity, such as a video clip or the Customers or Students’ birth certificate, passport, or driver’s license. This documentation may contain sensitive data such as full date of birth, place of birth, and government ID numbers. We only retain the information necessary, such as date of birth.
Background Check Information. Educators and potential employees must provide information as part of our background check process, including criminal history information, professional education and qualifications, work history, references, and teaching abilities. If you teach courses on our platform, you automatically consent to our background check on you.
2. How We Get Data About You
We use cookies, which are small text files stored by your browser, to collect, store, and share data about your activities across websites, including on Nbparents. They allow us to remember things about your visits to Nbparents, like your preferred language, and to make the site easier to use. We may also use clear pixels in emails to track deliverability and open rates.
Nbparents and service providers acting on our behalf (like Google Analytics and third-party advertisers) use server log files and automated data collection tools like cookies, tags, scripts, customized links, device or browser fingerprints, and web beacons (together, “Data Collection Tools“) when you access and use the Services. These Data Collection Tools automatically track and collect certain System Data and Usage Data (as detailed in Section 1) when you use the Services. In some cases, we tie data gathered through those Data Collection Tools to other data that we collect as described in this Privacy Policy.
2.1 Information we get through Third Parties
We may get information on you from Customers, Partners, third parties or vendors on Customers or potential Customers. This may include us getting the information directly or it may be getting your information from Partners. More detail is provided below for each one of these, but here we explain how and why we process this information.
We get information from third parties either by purchasing or leasing it, indirectly through our own vendors, or by engaging with you through third parties, like social media (see Social Media above). Also, our current Customers may share information in our referral program. We do not buy or lease information from third parties on Customers or Students.
In most cases, we obtain or purchase data so we can grow our business - so this is in our legitimate interests as a business to do so. We may use this data to report suspicious activity to a local agency. If so, this is either for addressing fraud or for the safety of Customers or Students.
2.2 Information from Partners
Nbparents partners with other organizations, such as schools, non-profits, and employers to provide services. In general, these Partners would provide your information to us for you to participate in Classes or Activities in which they have control (such as schools) or where they are offering the Services to you as a joint effort. Partners will likely provide you with specific information when the relationship is set up, especially if they have control over the Classes or Activities. If so, you need to look at their privacy notice for how they handle your information.
We also partner with technology companies to jointly provide some services. In some cases, you need to create an account with the partner to use their services and when you link your account there with your account with us, they may provide information to us.
2.3 Information from Vendors
At times, we may purchase (or lease) data from third parties for certain reasons. We don’t know how these third parties get your data, but it is generally through advertising services or other companies you have used who are able to share your information. We do not sell that information, but we may share it with our vendors, such as if we buy a mailing list of Parents in a certain area, we will share those addresses with a vendor who may print and mail the postcards. The data we get may be just on a group of people where we provide characteristics we want or we may provide the names (not on Customers or Students) to get more information on them, such as addresses for marketing materials or for reporting an event to the local agencies.
2.4 Information from other third parties
At times, you may decide to login to our services using a linked account, such as Facebook or Google. We make sure that you are able to do this, but it does mean you may be providing us more information about you. You should check the privacy notices of these providers to see what they share with us. We may also get information through third parties if you use them in Classes or Activities. We try to control the use of third party tools, but we are not perfect.
2.5 Information we get through Technology
Some data we get through technology, such as cookies and trackers on the website. We do not knowingly track children. More detail is provided below for each one of these, but here we explain how and why we process this information.
This data is collected through technology. This means simply by coming to our website or using our app, you are providing certain information automatically. Some of this you can opt out through our Cookies Page or through your computer or browser settings, but others are necessary.
More details are below, but some data is necessary for the operations of the website and app and some are optional. Optional reasons include analytics, preferences as discussed above about testing certain features or preferences on our site, assessing user behavior and tech problems, along with other useful information. Unless it is necessary for the website or app to work, our reasons are linked to our legitimate interests in having this information that we do not believe impact your rights and freedoms. This information also helps us personalize your experience with us. It also helps us detect, investigate fraud and violations of our policies.
We may collect technical, device, and usage data information. This is information that we automatically collect about your device and connection when you engage with Nbparents and it includes your IP address, device identifiers such as cookie identifiers and mobile device identifiers, operating system type, and the type of browser. This may include data about your usage (such as login times, search terms , items you click on, error messages, and pages you viewed) and location data. For information about what cookie and mobile device identifiers are and how we use them, please see our Cookie Notice Page. We do not collect data from third-party ad trackers on Customers or Students.
2.6 Inferred and Combined Data
We provided information on how and why we collect and process your information and provided a lot of information about the sources of information and the purposes for which we use your information. However, you need to know that using your information is not always so straightforward, we infer information about you and we combine data to have a more complete understanding of you.
We may infer new information from other data we collect to generate information about your likely interests. For example, we infer the class subjects your family may be interested in from searches you may perform. We may also infer your general geographic location (such as city, state, and country) based on your IP address.
We may obtain information from you from sources other than you, such as through partners, employers, third parties, or social media. For example, you may have accounts through your school or employer, and also directly. Where possible, we combine these sources to have one extensive view of individuals engaged with Outschool.
As we explained in the sections above, we may use any of the above categories of your personal data to:
Provide services to Customers, Partners, third parties, and employees;
Perform our business operations;
Manage our relationship with Educatorrs, Parents, and other individuals.
3. What We Use Your Data For
We may share your data with third parties under the following circumstances or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:
3.1 Educators
We share data that we have about you (except your email address) with Educators or Educators’ assistants for educational content you access or request information about, so they can improve their content for you and other Customers or Students. This data may include things like your country, browser language, operating system, device settings, the site that brought you to Nbparents, and certain activities on Nbparents, like enrolled courses and course review. We will not share your email address with Educators or Educators’ assistants. (Account Data; System Data; Usage Data; Approximate Geographic Data)
3.2 With Other Customers or Students and Educator
Depending on your settings, your shared content and profile data may be publicly viewable, including to other Customers or Students and Educators. If you ask a question to an Educator or teaching assistant, your information (including your name) may also be publicly viewable. (Account Data; Profile Data; Shared Content)
3.3 With Service Providers, Contractors, and Agents
We share your data with third-party companies who perform services on our behalf, like payment processing, fraud and abuse prevention, data analysis, marketing and advertising services (including retargeted advertising), email and hosting services, and customer services and support. These service providers may access your personal data and are required to use it solely as we direct, to provide our requested service. (All data categories)
3.4 With Nbparents Affiliates
We may share your data within our corporate family of companies that are related by common ownership or control to enable or support us in providing the Services. (All data categories)
3.5 With Business Partners
We have agreements with other websites and platforms to distribute our Services and drive traffic to Nbparents. Depending on your location, we may share your data with these trusted partners. (Account Data; Learning Data; Communications and Support; System Data)
3.6 With Credit-Granting Organizations for Continuing Education
If you take a course to fulfill a continuing professional education requirement, we may share that information upon request of the organization granting the continuing education credit. (Account Data; Learning Data)
3.7 With Analytics and Data Enrichment Services
As part of our use of third-party analytics tools like Google Analytics and data enrichment services like ZoomInfo, we share certain contact information or de-identified data. De-identified data means data where we’ve removed things like your name and email address and replaced it with a token ID. This allows these providers to provide analytics services or match your data with publicly-available database information (including contact and social information from other sources). We do this to communicate with you in a more effective and customized manner. (Account Data; System Data; Usage Data; Cookie Data)
3.8 To Power Social Media Features
The social media features in the Services (like the Facebook Like button) may allow the third-party social media provider to collect things like your IP address and which page of the Services you’re visiting, and to set a cookie to enable the feature. Your interactions with these features are governed by the third-party company’s privacy policy. (System Data; Usage Data; Cookie Data)
3.9 To Administer Promotions and Surveys
We may share your data as necessary to administer, market, or sponsor promotions and surveys you choose to participate in, as required by applicable law (like to provide a winners list or make required filings), or in accordance with the rules of the promotion or survey. 3.10 For Advertising
If we decide to use an advertising-supported revenue model in the future, we may use and share certain System Data and Usage Data with third-party advertisers and networks to show general demographic and preference information among our users. We may also allow advertisers to collect System Data through Data Collection Tools, to use this data to offer you targeted ad delivery to personalize your user experience (through behavioral advertising) and to undertake web analytics. Advertisers may also share with us the data they collect about you. To learn more or opt out from participating ad networks’ behavioral advertising. Note that if you opt out, you’ll continue to be served generic ads. (System Data)
4. For Security and Legal Compliance
We may disclose your data (all data categories) to third parties if we (in our sole discretion) have a good faith belief that the disclosure is:
Requested as part of a judicial, governmental, or legal inquiry, order, or proceeding;
Reasonably necessary as part of a valid subpoena, warrant, or other legally-valid request;
Reasonably necessary to enforce our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and other legal agreements;
Required to detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, misuse, potential violations of law (or rule or regulation), or security or technical issues;
Reasonably necessary in our discretion to protect against imminent harm to the rights, property, or safety of Nbparents, our users, employees, members of the public, or our Services;
We may also disclose data about you to our auditors and legal advisors in order to assess our disclosure obligations and rights under this Privacy Policy; or Required or permitted by law.
5. During a Change in Control
If Nbparents undergoes a business transaction like a merger, acquisition, corporate divestiture, or dissolution (including bankruptcy), or a sale of all or some of its assets, we may share, disclose, or transfer all of your data to the successor organization during such transition or in contemplation of a transition (including during due diligence). 5.1 After Aggregation/De-identification
We may disclose or use aggregated or de-identified data for any purpose.
5.2 With Your Permission
With your consent, we may share data to third parties outside the scope of this Privacy Policy. (All data categories)
6. Security
We use appropriate security based on the type and sensitivity of data being stored. As with any internet-enabled system, there is always a risk of unauthorized access, so it’s important to protect your password and to contact us if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.
Nbparents takes appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personal data that we collect and store. These measures vary based on the type and sensitivity of the data. Unfortunately, however, no system can be 100% secured, so we cannot guarantee that communications between you and Nbparents, the Services, or any information provided to us in connection with the data we collect through the Services will be free from unauthorized access by third parties. Your password is an important part of our security system, and it is your responsibility to protect it. You should not share your password with any third party, and if you believe your password or account has been compromised, you should change it immediately and contact our Support Team with any concerns.
7. Your Rights
You have certain rights around the use of your data, including the ability to opt out of promotional emails, cookies, and collection of your data by certain third parties. You can update or terminate your account from within our Services, and can also contact us for individual rights requests about your personal data. Parents who believe we’ve unintentionally collected personal data about their underage child should contact us for help deleting that information.
We recognize the privacy interests of children and encourage Parents and guardians to take an active role in their children’s online activities and interests. Individuals younger than 18 years of age, but of the required age for consent to use online services where they live (for example, 13 in the US or 16 in Ireland), may not set up an account, but may have a Parent or guardian open an account and help them access appropriate content. Individuals younger than the required age for consent to use online services may not use the Services. If we learn that we’ve collected personal data from a child under those ages, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Parents who believe that Nbparents may have collected personal data from a child under those ages can submit a request that it be removed to support@nbparents.com.
8.Third Party Services
This Privacy Policy does not address, and we are not responsible for, the privacy, information, or other practices of any third parties, including any third party operating any website or service to which the Services link. The inclusion of a link on the Services does not imply endorsement of the linked site or service by us or by our affiliates.
In addition, we are not responsible for the information collection, use, disclosure or security policies or practices of other organizations, such as Facebook, Apple, Google, Microsoft, RIM or any other app developer, app provider, social media platform provider, operating system provider, wireless service provider or device manufacturer, including with respect to any Personal Information you disclose to other organizations through or in connection with the Apps or our social media Pages.
9. Updates & Contact Info
9.1 Modifications to This Privacy Policy
From time to time, we may update this Privacy Policy.
As permitted by applicable law, if you continue to use the Services after the effective date of any change, then your access and/or use will be deemed an acceptance of (and agreement to follow and be bound by) the revised Privacy Policy. The revised Privacy Policy supersedes all previous Privacy Policies.
