Examples of Course Categories and Release Standards
At Nbparents, we want parents to clearly understand what their children will learn and achieve.
When creating a class, educators are encouraged to include a clear plan, teaching approach, and expected outcomes.
Here are the main course types supported on Nbparents:
1. Courses (Multi-Session Classes)
Best for: Structured learning experiences over multiple weeks
Key features:
-
Runs monthly, quarterly, or by semester
-
Follows a clear, published syllabus
-
Includes stated learning goals, weekly lesson plan, and one form of assessment
Parents invest more time and money in courses, so it is important to provide a detailed weekly outline and show exactly how learning will take place.
Example Course:
-
5th Grade Algebra
2. Clubs & Enrichment
Best for: Flexible topics, ongoing skill practice, or weekly engagement
Common formats include:
-
Test preparation
-
Book clubs
-
Current events discussions
-
Language conversation or interest-based clubs
When designing your class, plan for how late-joining learners will be welcomed and included. Unless your class is fully learner-directed or based on current events, you must list at least four topics to receive approval.
Example Course:
-
Write Paragraphs!
3. Tutoring & Private Lessons
Best for: One-on-one personalized learning
Be sure to include in your class listing:
-
Your teaching style
-
Subjects and grade levels you can support
-
How you adapt lessons to meet each learner’s needs
Example Course
-
Middle School Science Tutoring
4. One-Time Classes
Best for: Trial classes, skill introductions, or one-off activities
Your class listing should clearly state:
-
What learners will learn
-
How they will learn (e.g., lecture, discussion, hands-on activity)
-
Any required materials
Example Course:
-
Let’s Bake Cookies (ages 11–14)
5. Recorded Courses
Courses, clubs, and one-time classes can also be offered in a pre-recorded format.
Because there is no live interaction, be clear about:
-
How learners will engage with the material
-
How they will interact with you or receive feedback
Example Course:
-
Introduction to French (ages 8–12)
6. Other Course Types
