Course Content Guidelines
All classes offered on Nbparents must adhere to standards of objectivity, fairness, secular content, and age-appropriateness.
Nbparents is committed to providing all teachers, learners, and families with a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment. To achieve this, all class content must be fact-based, inclusive, and present diverse perspectives, ensuring that everyone feels respected and welcome in the classroom. The following guidelines must be observed when designing and submitting classes:
1. Maintain Secular Content
Religious Neutrality: Classes must not promote or favor any particular religion, nor share the teacher’s personal religious beliefs. When covering topics involving religion (e.g., history, culture), the approach must be neutral and objective.
Holiday Classes: Holiday-related classes should be approached from a secular perspective. Even if a holiday has religious origins, only secular songs, books, and activities should be used, and no religious promotion should be included.
2. Be Objective and Accurate
Unbiased: Class content must be based on facts and evidence and should not serve as a platform for personal opinions.
Science- and Research-Based: Classes should reference mainstream academic research and include sources in course materials. Pseudoscientific or supernatural topics (e.g., astrology, crystal healing, paranormal phenomena) may only be discussed as cultural or historical phenomena, not as scientific facts.
Multiple Perspectives: Content involving culture, history, or society should present different viewpoints to help students develop a well-rounded understanding.
Avoid Sensationalism: Content must be factual and accurate, and not exaggerated or dramatized for emotional impact.
3. Promote Inclusion and Equality
Global Perspective: Nbparents learners come from all over the world, so courses should consider diverse cultural contexts and language use.
Open Access: While a course may highlight benefits for certain groups, it must be open to all interested learners.
Gender Inclusion: Ensure learners of all genders and sexual orientations feel welcome. Do not use exclusive language in course titles or descriptions (e.g., “Girls Only”).
Anti-Discrimination: Courses must strictly avoid any form of racial, gender, or exclusionary discrimination. Negative descriptions based on race, skin color, nationality, religion, gender, or disability are prohibited.
Representation of Marginalized Groups: Whenever possible, include and respect the voices and perspectives of marginalized groups, and cite sources in course materials.
4. Class Format and Interaction Guidelines
Appropriate Role-Play and Debate: If a class includes role-playing or debating, teachers must clearly explain the rules beforehand to protect students while helping them understand multiple perspectives. Role-playing or debate should not reinforce ideas of group superiority or oppression.
Active Engagement: Class environments should encourage participation and foster equality, support, and mutual respect.
5. Teacher Expertise
Lived Experience: Nbparents recognizes professional knowledge gained through life experience, identity, or long-term dedication to a subject.
Foreign Language Instruction: Basic language conversation classes require at least 2 years of immersion or living experience. Advanced language courses require native fluency or a relevant degree.
Social and Cultural Topics: Classes on marginalized groups’ history or culture will undergo stricter review to ensure accuracy and avoid generalizations.
Advanced Academic Courses: Courses for older students should demonstrate deeper academic expertise and teaching ability.
Physical or Skills-Based Classes: Courses with safety risks (e.g., swimming, driving, survival skills) must provide the teacher’s professional qualifications and detailed parental guidance.
6. Age Appropriateness
Sensitive Content: If the class includes content that could be disturbing or frightening, parents must be informed in the “Parental Guidance” section.
Sex Education and Health: Courses must be scientific, neutral, and respectful of diverse identities, with reliable sources. Classes may not include obscene, inappropriate, or sexualized content and should present human anatomy, sexual health, boundaries, and consent in a professional, educational, and age-appropriate manner.
Social Issues: Classes may explore racism, sexism, or social injustice, but must follow expert guidance and ensure content is age-appropriate, inclusive, and supportive.
7. Prohibited Content
Medical and Therapeutic Services: Classes may not provide any form of medical care, mental health therapy, nutrition guidance, or rehabilitation services.
Diet and Nutrition: Courses designed for weight loss are prohibited. General nutrition information may be included, but individual dietary guidance is not allowed.
Mental Health Support: Techniques for managing daily stress are permitted, but diagnostic or therapeutic services are not.
Support or Social Groups: Classes targeting support groups must have strict structure and professional review to ensure they do not become therapy-focused.
