Keeping this in mind, here are the core principles we follow:

  • Be Kind – Make everyone feel welcome, valued, and included.
    Can do: Kind words, welcome words, inclusive words, compliments and praise, using others’ preferred name/pronouns, embracing differences, being tolerant.
    Be aware: Demeaning language, calling people names, belittling words, joking at others’ expense, potty/bathroom language, slang.
    Never: Racist, sexist, or discriminatory language, sexual innuendo, profanity, derogatory comments about protected groups, bullying.

  • Be Safe – Protect your personal information and respect others’ privacy.
    Can do: Share first name, hobbies, favorites (foods, colors, shows, authors, animals), country/region/time zone, grade, types of pets.
    Be aware: City, state, birthday.
    Never: Full name, address, email, social media accounts, school name, unauthorized pictures of others.

  • Be Mindful – Act thoughtfully and respectfully to create a positive learning environment.
    Can do: Uplifting language, safe words, polite tone.
    Be aware: Mild slang or bathroom-related words.
    Never: Threats, harassment, references to violence, bullying, inappropriate photos or videos, nudity, sexual innuendo, sexting.

  • Be Responsible – Follow rules and take care of your learning environment.
    Can do: Follow rules, complete assignments on time, participate actively, care for materials.
    Be aware: Occasionally forgetting assignments or minor lapses.
    Never: Intentionally break rules, disrupt class, damage materials/devices, cheat or submit others’ work.

  • Be Curious – Ask questions and explore new ideas.
    Can do: Ask questions, explore new ideas, share thoughts respectfully.
    Be aware: Don’t repeatedly interrupt, don’t ignore instructions.
    Never: Disrupt class to get attention, mock others’ questions, ignore learning guidelines.

  • Be Inventive – Think outside the box and express yourself in unique ways.
    Can do: Try new approaches, express yourself uniquely, share unconventional ideas respectfully.
    Be aware: Creativity slightly off instructions but still appropriate.
    Never: Plagiarize, use imaginative ideas to harm or embarrass others, share inappropriate or offensive content.

Handling Inappropriate Content

Once a learner posts inappropriate content, we immediately email them, ask them to review our guidelines, and discuss expectations. For serious or repeated incidents, Nbparents may suspend or terminate accounts or notify law enforcement. Parents and learners are always notified before any action is taken.
