Tax Reporting Guide
Educators on the Nbparents platform are classified as independent contractors for tax purposes. Regardless of your location, it is your responsibility to accurately report your earnings from Nbparents in compliance with your local and national laws. This obligation applies to all payment types received from Nbparents.
All payments to educators are processed through PayPal. Under U.S. IRS regulations, PayPal is required to issue a Form 1099-K and report your earnings to the IRS if you meet both of the following criteria:
-
A) You earned more than $20,000 in a calendar year, and
-
B) You received at least 200 payments through PayPal.
Please note that certain states have different thresholds:
-
If you reside in Vermont, Massachusetts, Virginia, or Maryland and have earned more than $600 USD, regardless of the number of transactions, PayPal will issue a Form 1099-K.
-
If you reside in Illinois and have earned more than $1,000 USD through at least 3 transactions, PayPal will issue a Form 1099-K.
Nbparents does not directly provide tax reporting forms. If you do not meet the criteria to receive a Form 1099-K from PayPal, you can request a report of your payments received for the relevant year. Be sure to account for any funds returned to Nbparents.
If you teach for an organization, please contact your organization's administrator for earnings information.
For educators in Canada, please contact our Support Team for assistance with tax reporting. Note that we are only able to provide general information about your learners from Canada, in line with our privacy policy.
It is important to maintain accurate records of all income received and consult with a tax professional to ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
